About
Daniel Carde is an award-winning photojournalist currently based in San Antonio, Texas.
A native of Salt Lake City, he also grew up in San Antonio, splitting his time between parents. In Utah he developed a love for the outdoors, especially the mountains and the sports that come with it, from snowboarding in the winter to downhill skateboarding in the summer.
While in South Texas he developed an interest in rodeos.
Though he always had an interest in history, he credits his grandmother that he grew a passion for conflict related issues. Daniel learned how important pictures are for survivors after when he saw that his grandmother, a Cité Héraud Massacre survivor, kept a picture taken after the massacre of her dead mother in the family photo album.
Daniel, a former Army paratrooper, passion grew to cover all aspects of conflict, from pre-war issues such as migration, economics and religion, to the civilians caught in the conflict itself, and finally the post-war issues such as rebuilding, human trafficking and veteran related issues.
Daniel’s time as an Army paratrooper further solidified his interest to tell the stories of fellow veterans.
After the military he enrolled at the University of Texas at Arlington where he majored in journalism.
While in school he was selected to attend the 30th Eddie Adams Workshop and was a member of Team Tie Dye. Then, after graduating in 2018, he was selected to attend Missouri Photo Workshop 70 in Mountain Grove, Missouri. Immediately following MPW.70, Daniel began a three month internship, extended an additional three months, at The Dallas Morning News in Dallas.
